Florida is home to 2.4 million people with coverage from Medicare and has 254 different Medicare Advantage plans available in the state. There are also a number of resources you can utilize to help navigate federal, state, and local programs.
What Forms Of Medicare Can I Get In Florida?
Like other states in the U.S., you can get Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) in Florida. Part A offers inpatient care coverage. If you’ve worked at least 40 tax quarters, you may be able to get it for a $0 premium. If not, it can cost up to $499 per month.
Part B is outpatient coverage, and for the majority, it costs $170.10 per month (it can be more for those with higher income).
Medicare Advantage (Part C) and Part D come from private insurance and are network-based, and different plans operate within specific areas. Medicare Advantage is a bundle package consisting of inpatient and outpatient coverage, as well as benefits such as dental, vision, and hearing coverage and gym memberships. It may also include prescription coverage.
If you do not have prescription coverage, you can get Part D.
Medicare Supplements (Medigap) help with out-of-pocket costs but have their own premiums. You can only have Medigap if you have Original Medicare, not Medicare Advantage.
What Is The State Health Insurance Program (SHIP)?
You can have access to help by contacting the State Health Insurance Program (SHIP), which is also sometimes referred to as Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders (SHINE). SHIP connects you to counselors who also work with public health agencies.
The contact number for SHIP is (800) 963-5337.
What Is The Florida Office of Insurance Regulation?
This is a service that helps you stay educated about Medicare and puts you out of harm’s way, as it helps you detect scams.
